Ann Handley suggests 12 ways to get an invitation to speak at an event or industry trade show.
She's the Chief Content Officer of MarketingProfs (http://www.marketingprofs.com/), which helps companies market their products and services both smarter and better.
Her pointers appeared on American Express's Open Forum site, which is a community designed to help business owners grow their business.
Here are some of her tips:
• Give yourself plenty of time. Seek out the events you’d like to attend well in advance, and reach out to the organizers. Don't wait until the day registration opens to ask for an invitation.
• Suggest how you fit in.
• Reach out personally. It’s always better to contact and organizer yourself, rather than rely on your PR agency to do it for you.
• Write a great session proposal.
• Create a speaking page. Dedicate a page on your Web site or blog to your public speaking efforts, including an overview of who you are and what topics you regularly speak about (or can).
