Healthy food alternatives from local companies dominated the new offerings shown at the revamped annual International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York.
The three-day trade show and conference featured products which were designed to draw diners seeking new food experiences while still being healthy alternatives.
Many vendors on the show floor focused on items ranging from leaner meats, low-calorie desserts and better presentations of old favorites.
Sponsored by the New York State Restaurant Association emphasis was placed on items reflecting the group’s new tagline "Helping Restaurateurs Succeed."
Also reflecting the trend to locally sourced ingredients, a particularly popular section was the Farm to City Expo.
More than 50 vendors, almost half of whom were new to the show were featured in this grouping.
Food service items were also present in record numbers, including the Best of Show winner as voted by attendees. That award went to Bon Chef for their stainless steel hammered serving pieces and their 3 wall cold wave miracle.
The Best New Product for the Food Trends Experience was Mr. Bey Lava Cake for their Chocolat Petit Gateau Gourmet Molten Cake.
The Ultimate Barista Challenge™ was won by James Duncan from Greenway Coffee & Tea in Houston, TX was named the Best of Brew Champion; and Ultimate Barista Danny Shannon from True Blue Single Estate Jamaica Coffee in Montauk, NY was named Latte Art Champion, Frappe Challenge Champion and the Ultimate Barista New York.
One highlight at the show was this newsletter’s radio show featuring guests talking about their products and services.
